Dololo’s Journey to Recovery: From Emaciated to Healthy and Happy

Dololo’s Incredible Comeback
When Dololo first came into our care, he was in a sorry state. He was extremely underweight, dealing with parasites, and had an eye infection that needed urgent attention. We had our work cut out for us, but we were determined to nurse him back to health. After nine long months of hard work, we are proud to say that Dololo is now a completely different animal. He’s full of life, looks great, and is definitely one handsome young bull!

Dololo has had a challenging journey that has been filled with ups and downs, leaving us concerned about the fate of this little elephant that was placed under our care in September 2018. On one fateful night in September, Dololo accidentally fell into a treacherous and slippery waterhole located outside of Tsavo East National Park. However, we believe that he was already an orphan before this incident happened. Upon discovery, Dololo was severely malnourished, weak, and vulnerable, which might have contributed to his fall as he lacked the strength to get himself out. His entire face and most parts of his body were submerged, and he had to use his trunk as a snorkel to breathe until rescued more than 12 hours later.

The baby elephant was found by the local community while they were watering their animals in the morning. They showed concern and informed the KWS rangers stationed nearby, who came to the rescue. The rescue team included Dr. Poghon, the KWS Veterinary Officer dispatched from the SWT/KWS Tsavo Mobile Veterinary Unit upon receiving the report of the stranded calf. The rangers safely removed the poor animal from the water, and Dr. Poghon arrived soon after to provide medical attention.

After being discovered, Dololo was transported to the Nursery in Nairobi by the SWT’s helicopter. This swift and efficient mode of transport minimized any further stress on him and saved precious time. The smooth transfer was critical as Dololo did not have the energy for a more strenuous rescue.

The SWT Nursery Team had a challenging path ahead when they first laid eyes on Dololo. It was clear that he had been through a lot, as his eyes were severely infected and remained that way for weeks. The reason for this was that he had been submerged in dirty water for a prolonged period, which caused a severe infection by the time he was rescued. To make matters worse, he was already emaciated, and the entire ordeal further depleted his health, causing him to lose even more weight until he became nothing but skin and bones. Although he was infested with parasites, the team had to be cautious and wait until he regained his strength before addressing this issue to avoid doing more harm than good.

Frequently, individuals who suffer from starvation experience collapsing episodes and necessitate intravenous fluids to revive their weakened bodies. This was the case with Dololo, who required strict monitoring during night shifts to distinguish whether he was sleeping or experiencing a severe hypoglycemic coma. Due to his deteriorating condition, he developed sores all over his body and experienced skin peeling. For months, Dololo was in a pitiful state, resembling a mere apparition rather than an elephant. It took a considerable amount of time before he began to recover and regain his strength.

After nine months, our team at the Nursery is incredibly proud to see the progress Dololo has made. He looks completely different now, with round and chubby cheeks, a perfect skin texture, and a resemblance to his former self. Dololo has adjusted well, finding joy in the company of his elephant friends and affectionately bonding with his human caretakers.

We recognize that Dololo’s recovery was no easy feat, and we feel privileged to have played a role in bringing him back to health. His own determination to survive was a crucial factor, but our team’s support was vital as well. We take great pleasure in watching Dololo thrive and imagining the magnificent bull he will become. For now, we cherish the time we get to spend with him before he returns to the wild.

Why Elephants Display Remarkable Stillness in Their Final Moments Before Death

The behavior of elephants in their final moments before death has long been a source of fascination and wonder. Observers have often marveled at the serene stillness that these majestic creatures exhibit as they approach the end of their life journey. This phenomenon is both enigmatic and deeply poignant, offering a glimpse into the unique world of elephants and their extraordinary connection to life and death.

The Profound Nature of Elephants

Elephants, particularly African and Asian species, are known for their intelligence, complex social structures, and emotional depth. They form strong family bonds, engage in intricate communication, and display empathy and grief in response to loss. These qualities have led scientists and researchers to explore the reasons behind the stillness exhibited by elephants as they approach death.

A Mysterious Transition

One of the prevailing theories is that elephants, with their profound awareness of mortality, may be preparing for the transition from life to death. Much like humans, they appear to go through a period of introspection and acceptance. This transition often involves a significant reduction in movement and interaction, as if they are conserving their energy for the journey ahead.

Selflessness and Herd Dynamics

Elephants are also known for their deep sense of community and herd dynamics. In some cases, ailing elephants may choose to separate themselves from the herd. This decision could be an act of selflessness, ensuring that their fellow herd members can continue their journey without the burden of caring for a dying companion.

Acceptance and Grief

Another perspective suggests that the stillness of dying elephants may be their way of reducing the emotional stress on their herd. Their calm demeanor might help their family members come to terms with the impending loss, allowing them to grieve in their own time.

A Profound Connection

The stillness of elephants in their final moments is a testament to the profound connection these creatures have with the natural world. It challenges our understanding of the emotional depth of animals and invites us to reevaluate our relationship with them. It serves as a reminder that we share our planet with extraordinary beings, each with its unique way of navigating life and death.

In the quiet moments before an elephant’s death, we witness the wisdom, the acceptance, and the profound interconnectedness of these magnificent creatures. It is a poignant and humbling experience that reminds us of the beauty and complexity of the animal kingdom.

Elephant’s 11-hour digging effort univeils astonishing discovery!

Facts first presents.

Mother elephant works for 11 hours to save or trapped baby and, as you know, elephants never forget.

So before we get into the video, don’t you forget to click that like button and also be sure to subscribe and click the notification bell so you don’t miss our future videos.

Most people know that there is nothing like a mother’s will when it comes to her children.

There have been stories on the news about women who have actually lifted cars with their bare hands in order to save their children, who were trapped underneath this type of motherly instinct.

It doesn’t stop with just humans either.

Animals have also been known to do some pretty amazing things to save their babies.

In 2015, an Asian elephant in the charted district of India proved that a mom will do anything to save her young.

On this day, this elephant and her calf- they were walking and the calf fell into a deep ditch, and the mother elephant knew her baby was in trouble.

So she tried desperately to free her baby from the thick mud.

The job was a lot harder than the mother elephant thought it would be to.

Each time she tried to free her baby, she ended up making things worse because she was so heavy she was actually pushing more and more dirt into the hole covering her baby.

Although it wasn’t easy, the mother elephant didn’t give up and she worked tirelessly for over 11 hours to free her baby.

When the local villagers saw what was happening, they were eager to help.

One villager, Jitendra Tiwari, got the entire thing on video.

They knew it would take their intervention to successfully save the baby.

Since the mother was not going to leave her baby.

For the villagers to try and help, they had to do something to lure her away, and they realized that since the mom had been trying to save her baby for 11 hours, she probably hadn’t had anything to eat or drink that entire time, and they realized that was their best chance to lure the mom away.

The villagers sent for a cart of bananas and a trough of water.

When the mother saw what they had, she was to realized that she did need in water if she was going to be able to continue trying to save her baby’s life.

When the mother went over to eat from the cart, the villagers rushed in to remove the heap of sand that the mother had pushed over the baby while she was trying to rescue her.

As the mother ate, the rescuers kept trying to pull the baby elephant out while many of the villagers looked on and finally they removed enough of the dirt where they could pull the baby elephant up by her trunk.

Although she was just a baby, she still weighed a lot.

I mean this is an elephant we’re talking about.

It made it difficult for the rescuers to pull around, but they did get the baby elephant back onto solid ground.

Eventually, when the mother elephant realized that her baby was safe, she quickly forgot all about that food and water and ran over to her baby, and it was at that point the villagers backed up so that they would not be in the way of the mother baby reunion.

When they were together- the mother and her baby- they spent a lot of time on the ground together and they remained close as if the mother elephant didn’t want to let her baby go in fear that she’d end up in some type of danger again.

While the heroism, love and bravery of this mother was amazing, you got to give the same props to those villagers as well.

They had no emotional ties to this family of elephants, but they still decided to try and step in and help and were successful at it: pulling a baby elephant up from a well, that can’t be an easy feat.

In fact, it took them hours for the rescuers to finally bring the baby to safety.

Each second that they were working to save that elephant, they were in danger themselves.

I mean had the mother filled up on bananas and water and seen what they were doing.

She may have misunderstood that they were actually trying to help.

If that happened, she could have charged them causing some serious injuries.

The rescuers didn’t care about their own safety, though.

They didn’t care about their well-being or even their time.

All they cared about was saving the baby elephant and reuniting her with her worried mother.

The whole thing was caught on camera and it is absolutely amazing.

Subscribe for more you.

Terrifying Encounter: Aggressive Elephant Takes On Vehicles and Tourists in a Shocking Wildlife Encounter

In a remote wildlife reserve, an alarming incident unfolded as an agitated elephant unleashed its fury, targeting both vehicles and tourists in a shocking and terrifying wildlife encounter. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for responsible wildlife tourism and the importance of understanding and respecting the natural behaviors of these majestic creatures.

The episode began when a group of tourists in safari vehicles came across a bull elephant during their expedition.

While it’s not uncommon for elephants to cross paths with tourists on safari, this particular encounter took a dangerous turn. The massive elephant exhibited signs of agitation, with flared ears, a raised trunk, and aggressive body language.

In a sudden and unexpected outburst, the elephant charged towards the vehicles, denting their sides with its enormous tusks and causing a state of panic among the tourists. The vehicles, despite their sturdy build, were no match for the sheer power of the enraged elephant. This chaotic scene left everyone involved in a state of shock and fear.

Even more distressing, the elephant’s aggression extended beyond the vehicles to the tourists themselves. Several of them were caught off-guard as the elephant attempted to intimidate and assert its dominance. Some tourists sustained minor injuries in the process, while others were left traumatized by the incident.

Wildlife experts and guides accompanying the tour group were quick to react, using their knowledge of elephant behavior to de-escalate the situation. Calm and strategic maneuvers helped create a safe distance between the tourists and the agitated elephant. After a tense standoff, the elephant eventually retreated into the wilderness, leaving behind a scene of destruction and a group of shaken visitors.

This startling encounter underscores the importance of responsible wildlife tourism and the need for tourists to respect the natural world. While witnessing animals in their natural habitat is a privilege, it comes with the responsibility of adhering to ethical guidelines and maintaining a safe distance from wildlife to avoid disturbing their natural behaviors.

Elephants, in particular, are intelligent, social, and complex animals. Understanding their body language and respecting their space is crucial to ensuring both their well-being and the safety of humans.

This incident serves as a stark reminder that even in the wild, unpredictability is inherent, and tourists must exercise caution and heed the guidance of experienced guides.

In the aftermath of this shocking encounter, it is hoped that both tourists and the tourism industry will reevaluate their approach to wildlife interactions, focusing on education, respect, and safety. Such experiences should not be feared, but they should be awe-inspiring and enlightening, reminding us of the incredible diversity of the natural world.
